Gary Dicus

"...because they are beautiful."

Having grown up in Tampa, Gary graduated from Mercer University in 1972. He immediately got into the carpet business. It came naturally. His father was in the carpet business. All of his high school and college jobs involved installing carpet. He spent the next 10 years representing carpet manufacturers and found a specialty niche serving the needs of interior designers.

In 1982 he started his own exclusive carpet line and formed the Addison Dicus Company. He continued to call only on designers. "Designers had then and have now special needs. I enjoy solving problems at that level and really enjoy the people in the field."

Fashion was changing. Designers were picking more hardwood floors and choosing less and less wall-to-wall carpeting. Hardwood floors need rugs. "This was fortuitous for me," said Dicus. "I love rugs. I love them because they are beautiful."

The trend toward rugs has continued so that now rugs account for most of the sales at Addison Dicus. Carpeting, hardwood flooring and garden artifacts account for the rest.

Dicus now has 30-years of great rug stories and still finds rugs "beautiful!"

Gary has been married to Debbie since 1975. They have two daughters and a son and a granddaughter.
